With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Laurent «Larry» Serre on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at the age of 73. Born to Dorias and Felicia Serre (née Remillard), Larry was a devoted miner whose passion for his work illuminated his life. A bona fide Toronto Maple Leafs superfan, Larry found solace and joy in the simple pleasures of life, especially his love for fishing. Whether reeling in a big catch or watching the Leafs take on their rivals, Larry had a knack for turning the highs and lows into unforgettable moments.
An avid outdoorsman, he cherished moments spent four-wheeling, hunting, and camping, relishing the beauty of the natural world. In addition to his work and outdoor pursuits, Larry had a deep appreciation for country music, finding comfort and inspiration in its melodies, often singing a tune or two during the intermissions of Maple Leafs games.
Beyond his profession and hockey fandom, Larry was a devoted family man, a loving husband to Evelyn Serre (née Schroeder), a proud father to Larissa Serre (Brennan) and Melanie Serre, and a caring stepfather to John and Robert. His legacy continues through his 9 cherished grandchildren, who, like him, may learn that sometimes laughter and a Leafs game are the best remedies.
Larry’s zest for life, his love for family, and his passion for the great outdoors will be fondly remembered by many siblings, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. As we reflect on Larry’s life, let us celebrate the joy he found in the simple pleasures and honor his memory by continuing to embrace the things that brought him happiness, even if the Leafs’ winning streaks were as elusive as a trophy fish. In accordance with his wishes, there will be no visitation or service. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Larry’s memory to a charity of choice by cheque or online at www.cooperativefuneralhome.ca.
