October 28, 1956 – February 8, 2024
It is with great sadness, that we announce the sudden passing of the rock of our family, Laurie Bennefield, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all.
Laurie took her last breath on February 8th after a quick and very aggressive battle with cancer.
Laurie was an absolutely beautiful being, who extended love and compassion to all. She was greatly loved and admired by her family and dear friends.
Laurie was born in Wetaskiwin, AB to John and Jean Pluim, the youngest of five siblings. Laurie met the love of her life, her person, her rock, Calvin Bennefield in the fall of 1973 and the two remained inseparable for the past 50 years.
A few years after marriage Laurie and Calvin welcomed their first born daughter Juliana Rose to this world with open loving arms. Laurie’s heart was full of love for that little girl and she became the devoted loving mother and mentor for life. Four years later they welcomed their second born daughter Jessica Laurie and their family unit was then complete…until of course the births of each of her incredible grandbabies with whom she held a special bond and place in her heart for each of them.
Laurie was a wonderful wife, and mother first and foremost, however she was an also an incredibly hard word worker, avid scholar, extremely intelligent and yet always remained so very humble. She immersed herself in years of post secondary learning, enrolling in various educational paths and programs, advancing her career, but also pursuing her dreams, passions and interests.
Laurie is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, her best friend and soulmate Calvin, Her daughter Jessica, grandchildren Samantha Wong, Ben Lee, Brady Wong, Nathaniel Lee and Shelby Vanderberg. Sister Irene Dika, Brother Bob(Nancy) Pluim; Sister in laws Susan L’Hirondelle (Ken), Kathy (Chris) Van Ostrand, Brother inlaws John (Jamie) Bennefield, Barry Rasmussen, and Larry Buskas, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Laurie loved her family dearly, and enjoyed planning many holidays to travel with her loved ones, including numerous adventures to Hawaii, Mexico, Cuba, Alaska and not to forget her favourites Canmore, Parksville BC and Moose Jaw SK.
Laurie was preceded in death by her daughter Juliana and granddaughter Georgia. Her parents John and Jean Pluim, her inlaws Buster and Shirley Bennefield, Sister in-laws Donna Buskas, Toni Lynn Rasmussen, Brother’s David Pluim and Jimmy Pluim, Brother in-laws Ron Dika and Darren Mayr, and nephew Jared L’Hirondelle.
A Public Celebration of Laurie’s Life will be held on Thursday, February 15, 2024 at 1:00 pm at Wilson’s Funeral Chapel – Lacombe
A Public Come and Go Reception will follow at the Lacombe Memorial Centre (LMC) Starting at 3:00 pm
We would like to extend gratitude to the medical team at the Lacombe Hospital and the wonderful care provided in the short stay on the Palliative unit.
