Passed peacefully away, surrounded by the love of her family at The Residence at Littledale in St. John’s, NL. She was predeceased by her husband Alfred, daughter Arleen, son Kenny, and infant grandson Garrett. She was the last surviving member of the family of Paul and Jane Wilson of Merasheen.
Left to celebrate her life are daughters Lynn (Gerry Wade) and Geralyn (Howie Hansford); son Glenn (Peg); grandchildren Erika Hansford (Rene Ritter), Samantha Hansford (Chris Vettorazzo), Allison Wade (Mike O’Brien); Zach Wade (Julie Cowan) and Ben Goss (Krysta Tobin), precious great-grandsons Wiley, Simon and Casper; sister-in-law Lillian Wilson, brother-in-law Maurice Gosse, sister-in-law Teresa Evans, many nieces and nephews in Canada and the United States who always kept in touch with their ‘Aunt Laura’.
The family wishes to acknowledge the wonderful staff at The Residence at Littledale where she resided for the last year and a half. Mom truly felt at home there and your kindness and compassion will never be forgotten. We also wish to thank all those who supported us during Mom’s last year with phone calls, visits, music and friendship. We were so blessed that she had you in her life.
Laura was born in Little Merasheen in 1930 and her pride for the Island remained with her all through her life. She was a typist, shorthand taker, crossword and cryptoquote enthusiast, reader of James Patterson novels, and a political junkie. She loved a nice outfit, a good glass of Chardonnay, music and, of course a dance around the floor with Al. She knew the games of hockey, football, baseball and curling and watched them all with great enthusiasm. She never shied away from a debate, had a razor-sharp wit, and always shared insightful commentary on any topic of the day. Laura loved a good party and spending time with her lifelong friends. Her love for her family was immeasurable; she beamed with pride for her grandchildren and, in her final years, her great-grandsons brought her so much joy.
Our loss is profound but we are comforted by a lifetime of memories.
The family will receive visitors at Caul’s Funeral Home, 84 LeMarchant Road, St. John’s, NL on Thursday, May 18 from 2pm-9pm. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial to be held at Divine Mercy Parish (St. Paul’s, Newfoundland Drive) on Friday, May 19, 2023 at 11:00am, with inurnment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
