It is with great sadness that the family of Lana Ann Melvin Smith, 60, of Mahone Bay, and formerly of Gold River, announces her passing on Friday, December 1, 2023 at the Mahone Nursing Home, Mahone Bay.
Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Ronald and Joan (Blakeney) Melvin.
The last number of years, Lana was a resident at Mahone Nursing Home and the family are so grateful for the wonderful care given to her while she was a resident at the home.
Over the years, Lana enjoyed craft painting, decorating her home, especially at Halloween, enjoying a good crime novel and many hours watching a good detective show. She enjoyed the simple pleasures of life and cherished times spent with her two children and grandchildren.
Lana is survived by a daughter, Nicole Melvin, Martin’s Point son, Trevor Pye (Darby), Western Shore, grandchildren, Esmae, Landon and Brooklynn, brothers, Ronnie Melvin, Napan, NB; Thomas Melvin, Yarmouth, Paul (Mary) Melvin, Gold River and Dean (Terri Lynn) Melvin, Martin’s Point and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Ronald and Joan Melvin, Lana was predeceased by her step-mother, Pearl (Ferguson) Melvin; and sister-in-law, Nancy (wife of Ronnie).
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy. # 3, Lunenburg. Cremation has taken place and at Lana’s request a private family celebration will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada or to the Mahone Bay Nursing Home Recreation Program.
