Obituary of Lai Yik Yip Mark
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lau, Yuk Yip Mark, who peacefully left this world on January 26, 2024. She was born on September 18, 1923, in Toisan, Canton, now known as Taishan, Guangdong. Yuk Yip Mark was the beloved wife of Wing Yun Mark, and together they built a life full of love, family, and community.
In addition to her role as a loving mother and partner, Yuk Yip Mark, along with her husband, owned and operated the well-known restaurant, National Chop Suey. Their culinary venture became a staple in the community, known not only for its delicious fare but also for the sense of community it fostered. Yuk Yip Mark’s passion for cooking and hospitality was evident in every dish served, leaving a lasting impact on the palates and memories of patrons.
Yuk Yip Mark’s departure leaves a void that will be felt deeply by her family, friends, and the community she so dearly embraced. Her memory will live on through the love and compassion she shared, the delicious meals she prepared, and the countless lives she touched.
She will be dearly missed by her children, and grandchildren; Sheulin Cheung (Kwok Sing), Cathy Yee (Michael), Aimee Yuan (Wesley), Becky Cheung, Debbie Cheung; Tom (Mary, predeceased), Annie Yee (Allan) and Susanna (Nathan); Allen Mark and Doug Mark; Edna Mack (Larry), Branden and Lyndall.
The Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 2nd, 2024 at the Saskatoon Funeral Home at 338 4th Ave North. Interment will be at the Woodlawn Cemetery at the new Chinese section. Arrangements made by Saskatoon Funeral Home (306-244-5577).
