Kirk Dalton Barnes, beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 29, 2023, at home in Gravenhurst, Ontario. Beloved wife of Leslie Barnes (nee Foley). He was the beloved son of the late Harold and Leonia Barnes (nee Radcliffe), born on June 24, 1958, in Bracebridge, Ontario. Kirk was known for his love of life and his warm-hearted personality.
Kirk’s family meant the world to him. He was a devoted father to Mckenzie Barnes (Aidan Scott). Dear son-in-law of Carole and the late Les Foley. Kirk’s siblings Linda Wardhaugh (the late Don), Shirley Terry (the late Bruce), Stuart Barnes (Linda), Leonard Barnes (Darlene), Hal Barnes, Jackie Erwin (Don), Sandra Hardill (Ken), Susan Burnett (Ron), and sister-in-law Deyette Schell (Howard) formed a tight-knit family network that always stood by his side.
Furthermore, Kirk was an adored and beloved uncle to Trevor Terry, Adam Terry (Lisa), Todd Barnes (Nikki Jones-Stachniak), Jennifer Barnes (Devon Cherrier), Blake Barnes (Shawna), Matt Barnes, Alex Duggan, Stephanie Hayden (Jason), Sean Erwin, Chris Erwin (Sarah), Caitlin Erwin (Sheldon Hargrove), Livia Tymon (Andy), Ashley Hardill (Nick Fabin), Megan Cobean (Matt), Mitchell Burnett (Alex), Maria Nelson (Trevor Bouskill). Kirk is now reunited with his late nephews John Foley and Mathew Foley. He cherished every moment spent with his nieces and nephews and took pride in watching them grow into remarkable individuals. He is also survived by many great nieces and nephews.
Kirk was a kind and generous soul who touched the lives of everyone he encountered. He had a great sense of humor and always had a joke ready to make those around him laugh. His nephews often found themselves on the receiving end of his playful tricks, while his friends could always count on him for a good laugh.
One of Kirk’s greatest joys in life was spending time outdoors. He adored nature and cherished moments spent fishing with his daughter and friends. Kirk also enjoyed hunting trips to Camp Hideaway in Bala and ice fishing on Lake Muskoka. He had an adventurous spirit and loved going four-wheeling and canoeing on Pine Lake during summers. Kirk found solace in the tranquil beauty of nature.
Baseball held a special place in Kirk’s heart, and he remained passionate about the sport throughout his life. He participated in numerous tournaments across Ontario and continued playing even as he grew older. His love for sports extended to horseshoes as well, where he would challenge his friends to friendly competitions whenever they gathered together.
In addition to his passion for outdoor activities and sports, Kirk had a deep affection for animals. Throughout his life, he shared that affection with several dogs who became cherished members of his family—Barney, Shadow Marley, and Lilly—who brought immeasurable joy into his life.
Kirk’s memory will continue to be treasured by all who were fortunate enough to have known him. His jovial spirit and zest for life made him a shining light in the lives of those he touched. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
There will be no services. A private family burial will be held in Spring of 2024.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for live plant arrangements, or for donations to be made to OSPCA-Muskoka or the Alzheimer’s Society of Muskoka and may be arranged online or through Cavill Funeral Home.
Let us hold on to the memories of Kirk’s laughter and joyful presence. May we find comfort in knowing that he is now at peace. May Kirk’s soul rest in eternal peace as we celebrate his incredible life.
