Kingsley Brooks son of Henry Brooks born June 13th, 1930 in PE South Africa and Pauline Brooks born February 2nd, 1926 in Cape Town South Africa. His grandmother is Amy Matilda Gentle, daughter of John Henry Brooks. Kingsley leaves behind three daughters, Alecia Brooks, Sheena Brooks, Jaime Brooks, and his former wife Brenda Brooks.
In 1960, two-year-old Kingsley left Port Elizabeth via ship with his parents and headed to London England. On the ship, the captain absolutely adored him. He asked Kingsley why he’s headed to London and his response was, “to better my education sir”. And that he did.
Kingsley attended primary school in London and most of his secondary schooling there as well. He was very social and active in England. He played soccer ‘British football’ and was highly competitive. Kingsley moved to Scarborough Ontario in 1973 and graduated from David and Mary Thomson Collegiate Institute. He was brilliant and quite often outsmarted the teachers.
Kingsley attended Seneca College where he met Brenda and studied IT. He helped design the computer loop for the Expo Skytrain in Vancouver and received a certificate. He did some time in the Canadian Armed Forces as well, Private Kingsley Henry Brooks as a paratrooper. And around the same timeframe, he volunteered on several occasions with the Jane/Finch Community and Family Centre to support the less fortunate. He also made several charitable donations to average individuals having a difficult financial time.
In the 90s, Kingsley attended the University of Toronto for several years studying the sciences. With his brilliant mind, he aced everything and sometimes questioned and debated when he disagreed with an answer because he was certain he was correct, and that he was. Kingsley worked as a painter and at one point owned his own business called KHB General Contracting. He worked hard to pay his tuition and managed to maintain his high GPA.
In the late 90s, Kingsley enrolled in an IT program at PrimeTech Institute where he aced yet another program. He changed his career and began working with large IT companies where he eventually advanced in the TD Bank as Information Security Specialist.
Kingsley was very physically active and highly competitive. He belonged to the GoodLife where he enjoyed RPM and some other high intensity cardio classes. Aside from his gym time, he loved cycling, rollerblading, swimming, walking and the summer before his passing, he took a liking in rowing and joined a rowing club near Sunny Side Beach in Toronto.
Aside from being physically active, Kingsley played guitar, drums and sang. He jammed with friends and sang at various karaoke places in Toronto. He had strong inter-personal skills and really enjoyed the company of his friends and community. Kingsley loved spending time with his kids and he always ensured the weekends were full of activities and outings. Everyday was exciting and adventurous and you never could predict how the day would end.
In September 2016, Kingsley was initiated into Masonry at the General Mercer Lodge and quickly realized this was his passion and where he belongs. He applied himself and worked his way up the ladder as far as he could given the time he had left. He developed a strong brotherhood and cherished this dearly. He loved helping people in any way he could and enjoyed challenges, loved the memory work as well.
Kingsley Brooks is missed dearly by all his friends and family but most of all his kids. He will never be forgotten, and his legacy will live on.
