Obituary
Passed peacefully away at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital, on Thursday, July 13, 2023, following a brief battle with metastatic colon cancer, Josephine Kielly (nee Daly) of Mall Bay, St. Mary’s Bay, aged 78 years.
She is predeceased by her husband, Gerald Kielly of Gaskiers and her parents James & Margaret (nee Christopher) Daly of Mall Bay.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen Kielly and son-in-law Christopher van der Meulen of Halifax; her sister, Mary (Michael) Dobbin of Admiral’s Beach; her twin brother, James (Laura) Daly of Richmond Hill, Ontario; her brother, Richard Daly of Mall Bay; her sister, Lucy Daly of Holyrood; and her aunt, Mary Christopher of Conception Bay South. There are also countless beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Josephine had a wonderful outlook on life and living and her faith in God was unmistakable. She was one of the wise ones who was happy and content with the simple life. She worked hard and made many sacrifices in life, but she valued every day and went about doing her chores with joy in her heart. She loved animals of all kinds, caring for each one she encountered, right down to her sea gulls. She was not only Shepherd to her sheep but also to the many people who sought her guidance and support over the years. She was a friend and confidant to many. She loved Mall Bay and gave so much to her community through the Recreation and Church committees. If you went to a dance in Mall Bay, then you knew Josephine. She loved her «Times» and Brian Finn was her favorite.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 17, 2023, from 9am – 12pm, at Gibbons’ Funeral Home, St. Mary’s followed by Mass of Christian Burial at, at 11am, at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, St. Mary’s.
