Kerry Lavoie, beloved husband, father, grandfather, millwright, avid golfer, and hunter, passed away with his soul mate and a dear friend by his side on the evening of September the second. He was 65 years old.
He is survived by his mother Betty Yelden, his wife Carolyn, his son Bob (Tara), his daughter Kara (Katherine), grandson Logan, brothers Perry Lavoie and Rick Lavoie, sisters Linda Lavoie and Shirley (Ken) Halliday, Nieces Jennifer Lavoie (Mark) and Katherine Wookey (Colby), grandnephew Jack, and many cherished aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was pre-deceased by his grandparents Rachel and Lucien Lavoie, Louise Heels and Jerry Bauer, his father Clement Lavoie, and his son Christopher Lavoie.
Kerry was born Oct 20, 1958, in Barrhead AB. He graduated from Prince George Senior Secondary in 1977. He moved to Hinton in 1978 and started a millwright apprenticeship shortly after starting work at Cardinal River Coal Mine.
Kerry married the love of his life Carolyn in 1979. They met as teenagers at the Northern BC Winter Games which was held in Dawson Creek. He was an accomplished wrestler, and she was a talented volleyball player. Their friendship bloomed into a loving marriage, having celebrated 45 years together this past August. They welcomed their first son Christopher in 1979, their second son Bobby in 1983, and their daughter Kara in 1990.
Kerry was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed teaching those around him the value of nature. He was a scout leader for years, and a scout himself, earning the Chief Scout award as a teen. He had a lifelong love of playing hockey and playing golf. Most importantly he loved being a family man. He adored all of his children. He had a job he was passionate about and co-workers he enjoyed spending time with and mentoring. Another one of his passions was gardening. He loved sharing the product of his labour with those he cared about.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion in Hinton, Alberta, on September 10, 2024 at 11:00 AM with Inurnment to follow at the Woodlawn Cemetery.
He was one of a kind, a man of honour, integrity, love, and mischief.
