Kenneth William Lavoie Obituary
Kenneth ‘Ken’ William Lavoie
November 28, 1946 ~ October 20, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ken Lavoie, at the age of 77 years. Husband of Sandra Lavoie (Byron) for 56 years. Father to Kenneth JR (Deceased), Bobby (Kathleen) Lavoie, and Stacey (Bob) Jarriet. Proud gramps to Cody and Madison Lavoie and grandpa to RJ (Deceased), Shy Lynn, Hunter, Noah Jarriet. Great grandpa to Niklaus and Ari.
Ken was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in the Elders Quorum presidency and was proud of his commitment to following the gospel as best he could.
Ken was recognized by the National Pigeon Association as a master breeder, and also inducted into the Canadian Modena Hall Of Fame for his excellence in Modena Pigeons.
Professionally, Ken had a diverse career, starting with his ownership of “Ken’s Men’s Wear” in Amherstburg. He then served with Canada Post, starting as a letter carrier and quickly being recruited into management. His latter years saw him playing a significant role in the family business “Viva Las Vegas” as the sound tech and also “The Hat Man”.
Some of his proudest achievements included being selected the National President of JR Achievement Canada. Another highlight was creating “Operation Christmas Tree” while serving as Regional Post Master in Corunna, Ont. This project grew from a small region to a national endeavor.
Ken will always be remembered as the #1 fan of the New York Yankees. He was in the stadium for Mickey Mantle’s final home run in 1968 and was also in the stadium for Aaron Judge’s record-breaking home run. His love of the Yankees was passionately shared with Bobby, Cody and Maddy.
His two favourite places in life included hours spent with his pigeons in the loft and any opportunity to be with his grandkids. From these two sources, he found much happiness.
Please join the family for a visitation and Celebration of Life on Saturday October 26 at 12 noon until 6:00pm. A special tribute will take place at 2:00, followed by a light lunch. Everything will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 139 Fraser Rd. Leamington, Ontario.
