Kenneth Paul
MacDougall – age 68, left this world to join his cherished son, Sean,
on May 22, 2023.
Born December 5, 1954
in Sydney Mines, Ken was a beloved husband, father, and grampy. He
loved listening to music, searching for adventures, and delighting his
grandsons with silly «dad jokes.» He did not shy away from
voicing his opinion and was always ready to debate something he
believed in— whether he had a willing participant or
not.
His career as a social
worker spanned over twenty-five years and took him across the country
and back, finally settling at Soldier’s Memorial Hospital in
Middleton. In his retirement, Ken travelled to Mexico several times.
Puerto Vallarta became his winter paradise and he spent every dreary
Nova Scotian day dreaming of its warm, sunny beaches.
Ken had the heart of a
poet. He held a great appreciation for music, poetry, and the written
word. He adored the work of countless artists but his true passion was
always Bob Dylan. During the good times and the bad, it was Dylan he
turned to for peace and solace. Dylan provided him a sense of comfort
and joy that nothing else could ever quite match.
He is survived by a
large extended family and will be deeply missed by his wife, Audrey
Shields; his children, Ceilidh (Ira) Cavanagh, Allison MacDougall, and
Marc MacDougall; grandsons, Daegan, Elias, Malachy, and Asher
Cavanagh; and siblings, Jimmy MacDougall and Judy (Bob)
Carruthers.
Cremation has taken
place and there will be no public service, by request. A private
service will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted
to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services,
Kentville.
