Kenneth Henry Gowan
1937-2023
Kenneth H. Gowan passed peacefully with his loving family by
his side on May 22, 2023. Ken was born on September 29, 1937 in
Digdeguash, NB. He was predeceased by his wife, Sheila (Oliver) Gowan,
the mother of his children. He is survived by his five children, Keith
(Pam), Pearl (Rick), Peter (Pat), Marguerite (Randy) and Rosemary
(Lyon). His grandchildren Kristina, Jerramie, Matthew, Adam, Michael,
Tristan, Jared, William, Victoria and Andrew. Great-grandchildren
Jake, Corbin, Jordyn, Olivia, Alec, Owen, Kinley, Emrys, Amelia, and
Evelyn. He was also predeceased by his parents, Willard and Helen
Gowan and by his second wife Sandra (Purdy) Dow.
Ken was a self-made man having worked many jobs throughout
his life to support his family. Those jobs included working in the
woods cutting pulp with his horse, Prince, lobster fishing, weir
fishing and driving dump trucks. Ken eventually started his own
business, Kenneth Gowan Construction, driving dump trucks and
operating heavy equipment. He got immense enjoyment from working
around the Charlotte County area and meeting new people. His standards
were high, and he took pride in a job well done.
Ken was also well known in the wreath making industry,
working many years November and December providing jobs for the people
of Charlotte County. Bethel was the heart of the industry with many
companies coming after him. He was a trendsetter for the industry.
Many thousands of wreaths went through his yard each
year.
After his retirement Ken enjoyed puttering around the Bay of
Fundy in his boat. He also had many projects to keep him busy and
amused, making kindling bundles and helping out his neighbours. He
never completely retired. He was not one to be idle. Ken was a
familiar sight at Tim’s with one of his brothers Bobby or
Norvel drinking coffee and driving around the Charlotte County area.
There were always new roads to travel.
He will be sadly missed by his family and everyone who knew
him.
In keeping with Ken’s wishes a private graveside
service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Charlotte County
Cancer or to the Charlotte County SPCA.
