I’M FREE
Don’t grieve for me, from pain I’m free.
I’m following the path God laid, you see.
I took His hand when I heard His call.
I turned around and left it all.
I could not stay another day,
To laugh, to love, to work or play
Tasks left undone must stay that way,
I found the peace on a sunny day.
If my parting has left a void,
Then fill it with remembered joys.
A family shared, a, laugh, a kiss,
Oh yes, these things I too will miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow.
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life’s been full, I’ve savoured much,
Good family, good friends, good times,
A loved one’s touch.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief.
Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your hearts, and peace to thee.
God wanted me now; from pain I’m free.

Keith Walter Adnam of Saskatoon passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at the age of 66. Keith is survived by his sister Elva (Harold Dustow) of Lloydminster, Sk., brothers George of Saskatoon and Donald (Marthe) of Ottawa, Ont., and sister-in-law Lyla (Glen) of Regina; niece Kennedy Tessier (Scott) of Arcola, Sk.; nephew Bailey of Regina; great nephews Sebastien, Milo, Ryker and Harrison of Arcola; and long-time friend Jacqui Brown of Saskatoon. Keith was predeceased by his parents Walter and Cheslyn Adnam and his brother Glen (Lyla).
Born in Rosetown, Keith was the second youngest of five children. Keith enjoyed working on the farm while growing up. Always interested in music, he was a big part of the music scene in the Rosetown area from an early age. He was a member of the Rosetown Boys Choir age 6-10, a singer/actor in a local production of The Sound of Music, playing the part of Kurt von Trapp at age 10, and a member of the School Concert Band & Choir playing the trumpet. He learned to play the guitar and started teaching it in high school. He also played in a local rock band. Keith had an absolute love and respect for the music of Hank Williams.
And Keith loved the Detroit Redwings, the Riders and Dodge trucks.
Keith earned a B.A. with a music major and a B.ED. with a history major and English minor. Keith worked for Canada Post in Saskatoon for a number of years. And he performed as a studio musician playing the bass guitar on 3 albums. He was a grade 6, 7 and 8 band director and classroom music teacher first in Macklin Sk. and then in Saskatoon. Following his teaching career, Keith continued teaching guitar and began entertaining in coffee houses and senior’s residences in Saskatoon in a solo act under the gig name ‘just The guy’.
One musical experience that really brought a smile to Keith’s face was performing on stage at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, New York City. He sang acapella Johnny Cash’s song Folsom Prison Blues. It was a magical, musical visit that also included a tour of Radio City Music Hall and dinner at a jazz club. He even bought a new microphone for his solo act.
Keith loved gardening. For years, he maintained a plot of vegetables in a community garden. He also had a small garden in the yard of his trailer where he would grow potatoes, carrots, tomatoes and lettuce plus a few flowers. He had potted plants ready for transplant this spring.
Keith always loved animals, especially cats. During a particularly challenging period of his life, combatting bipolar disorder, Keith adopted a cat named Goatee on the advice of his therapist. Goatee helped him through some difficult times. He also took in numerous stray cats over the years, feeding them and paying their vet bills. The ashes of Goatee and Scooter, another feline companion, were found in urns on a cabinet in Keith’s trailer after his passing.
Keith was at home with his four cats, his music and his musical instruments up until the last few hours before his death.
We love you Keith and we will miss you. But now it’s time for you to go jam with Glen.
