Keith John Salmon ~ 14 March 1932 – 26 September 2023
On September 26, 2023, in his 92nd year, Keith left this world to be reunited with the love of his life and wife of 35 years, Amy.
Keith was born in London, England. Evacuated to the countryside during WW2, he sang as a choir boy in Windsor and went on to earn degrees in Theoretical Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at Birkbeck College. As a young man, he ran a jazz club, flew gliders, cycled the English countryside, sailed the Norfolk Broads, and nourished his love of theatre, music, and opera. He gained a partner for all his pursuits when he met Amy Forman, a chemical engineer from Canada.
Their life together was rich with family and experience. Canada became their base when they moved to Sarnia to start their family. They supported each other in their dreams – for Keith, to build an opera house in Sarnia; for Amy the family farm at Balsam Lake. Keith travelled extensively through his career selling petrochemical technology around the world, and Amy often accompanied him as advisor and confidante. Together they travelled to six continents, working and immersing themselves in local culture.
After Amy’s passing in 2000, Keith maintained his interests in science and the arts, keeping up with developments in science and technology, regularly frequenting operas, concerts and theatre festivals, and sharing his passion for these pursuits with his grandchildren.
Keith was a man of many talents and interests – a scientist, an engineer, an opera buff, a Shakespeare lover, a devoted husband. He was a loving father and grandfather, and a kind and generous friend. He loved to host dinners with friends and family. Nothing made Keith happier than sharing a good meal and a glass of wine with good company.
He will be forever missed by his daughter; Penny (Alan Catalano), son; J.J. (Kim), grandchildren; Emily, Amy, Geoffrey and Timothy, and dear friends; Eleanor Burton, and Paul Maly.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Stoddart Funeral Home, 24 Mill Street, Lindsay on Friday, October 6th from 10:00am until time of service at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your favourite arts organization in his honour. And please raise a glass in his memory.
