Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Keith Albert Ferlin on October 16, 2023 after a brief but valiant fight against complications from COVID.
Keith was born and raised in Penticton B.C. After graduation, he moved to Vancouver to attend the Vancouver College of Art and worked as a cab driver for Maclure’s. He met many of his longtime friends while living in Kitsilano and they kept in touch throughout the years. Keith was quite adventurous in his youth, traveling by freighter from New York to Morocco. He spent several months exploring Morocco and often shared stories about this time in his life.
For most of his working life, Keith worked as a Boilermaker for Lodge 359 and traveled to various worksites throughout B.C. He later went on to develop and patent a ventilation system designed for confined spaces which was used in power plant facilities in the U.S.
Keith met his wife Wendy in Summerland in 1978 and later married in 1989. They bought a house on Peach Orchard Road and spent 45 wonderful years together, raising their children and building a lifetime of memories. Keith was a hardworking, wonderful husband and father who was always supportive of any adventures his kids planned, saying we needed to “carpe that diem”.
Those who knew him remember him for his smile and laugh, so full of love and life. He loved to cook for his family and friends, and enjoyed spending quality time together. Many summer days were spent at Sunoka beach and in the beautiful backyard gazebo he built with his own hands. Keith often said we are all part of the Q-LU tribe (quirky little units) and he was no exception, often coming up with his own “interesting” modifications to anything he could get his hands on.
As a long time resident of Summerland, Keith was involved in the community over the years and was one of the founding members of the George Ryga Center. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
Keith is survived by his wife and partner of 45 years, Wendy, his children, Warren (Raedeke), Zoë Boulton (Reuben), Lindsay (Phil Young), sister Karen Hamm (Gordon), granddaughters Alora and Reina, he also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
We extend our gratitude to the nurses and staff at Penticton Regional Hospital and Moog & Friends Hospice House for their exceptional care of Keith. A Celebration of Life will be held in the Spring of 2024.
