Kathy’s Obituary
With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Kathy Barnowski (nee Broughton) on December 9, 2024 at the age of 61. Kathy passed away with her family at her side following a courageous battle with dementia.
Kathy will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 39 years Marvin; daughters Taylor (Andrew) and Tessa; her cherished grandson Cooper; her sisters Patti (Kurt) and Dee (Steve); her parents Ken and Doreen; her nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends. Kathy was predeceased by her grandparents Dorothy and Jack O’Sullivan and Otis and Marie Broughton.
Born in Peace River, AB, Kathy spent her childhood and early adult years there. She and Marvin were married in Peace River in 1985, where they began raising their family. Kathy began her career at AGT at age 18 and as the company evolved into Telus, so did her career, advancing from operator to manager and later to business analyst. Her work with Telus moved her family to Grande Prairie and then Edmonton. Kathy was always a bright student and loved learning, even while working full time and raising her family she completed night classes to obtain her University Certificate in Administration. She proudly dedicated 34 years of service to Telus.
Kathy loved spending time with her friends and family, whether it was watching a favorite TV show, going for a walk, shopping, out for dinner or catching up on the phone. We will all miss her caring spirit and witty sense of humor. Being a Grandma brought her so much joy and she never passed up an opportunity to babysit. She also enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, reading, sewing and cross-stitching. There was always a bottle of Diet Coke nearby. The handmade gifts she lovingly crafted over the years will remain treasured keepsakes for her family.
The family would like to thank her longtime doctor, Dr. Lynda Nguyen and the staff at Villa Marguerite, Villa Caritas (especially Dr. Walker) and the Edmonton General for their compassionate care during this difficult time.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the new year.
