Kathrina, famously known as “Lucky” passed away peacefully on the evening of February 18th 2023, surrounded by all of her loved ones. Kathrina was born in Greenland on April 12, 1935 to Adam and Mina Ostermann. She met her husband, Aksel Sorensen in Greenland, and moved to Denmark. Then in 1957, they moved to Canada, and in 1963 they made Kimberley BC their lifelong home.
Lucky was loved by everyone who had the privilege to meet her. Some of her favourite pastimes were kicking peoples butts playing cards, and going to Bingo. She would lay out several bingo cards for herself, and several cards for whoever she was with , and be able to stamp them all if you started to get lost! You could always see her busting out her happy dance every time she won. She loved spending time with her dearest friends like Sophie, Irene and Tora, having coffee or tea and her famous home made buns or danish Kleiner cookies. We would chuckle because when she was done visiting, she would always say “You can go home now”.
She was the president of the Eagles for many years, which she was very proud of… she kept her Vest with all of her pins decorated on the front. She was also in the bowling league for many years in Kimberley, where she travelled all over the country playing tournaments with her bowling family…She gave away trophies because she had so many.
In her earlier days, she worked at Mary’s Kitchen, Kimberley City Bakery and she cleaned houses on the S Half Diamond Ranch at Premier Lake. She was always on the road with her granddaughter Ashley, cruising around in the motorhome and camping. A lot of miles were put on that motorhome, and a lot of priceless memories were made. And Fishing! Boy, did she love fishing. She would bait her hook, drop it in the water, lean over the boat and say her magical phrase “Here fishy fishy fishy”… and she caught fish every time.
We will miss her cheeky smile, her contagious laugh, the never ending jokes and that sparkle in her eye when she saw someone she loved.
Thank you to all the nurses and Doctors at the Cranbrook Hospital for taking such good care of her, and to all of her beautiful friends and staff at the Kimbrook Manor who were like her second family.
“You can go home now, sweet Kathrina”… even though it’s left a giant hole in all of our lives.
Kathrina is survived by her Daughter, Doris Ann (Gary), Sons, Pete(Lorie), Robo, Tom(Tannis) and Jens(Grethe).
