Kathy Neyvatte, a spirited soul and beacon of feistiness, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2024, at the age of 78, in Edmonton, AB. Born on May 1, 1946, in the quaint town of Wolfville, NS. Kathy’s journey through life was marked by love and loss – joy and tears – difficult days and terrific times, but always with an unwavering dedication to her family and the small inner circle of people she loved and trusted.
Kathy’s early years were filled with the warmth of a close-knit post-war community and the loving guidance of her parents, Cy and Mary Neyvatte. She eventually married into the air force and moved out west in the early 70’s. Though she was predeceased by her parents, brother Ron, and brother-in-law Mike, the values they instilled in her remained a guiding force throughout her life.
A woman of remarkable strength and character, Kathy was the extremely proud mother of her children, Jason (Becki) and Sabrina, plus she embraced her role as a grandmother with fanatical zest and open arms. Showering Aaron, Cole, Hailey and Ryan with laughter – the occasional duck or llama – plus treats and love. Her surviving sibling Mary Elizabeth and sister-in-law Joyce will fondly remember the trouble they each used to get into over the other one’s actions, not to mention Kathy’s infectious laughter and follow up wise cracks. She especially wanted us to mention her gratitude for the unconditional love and support from everyone she left behind when she relocated west. She never stopped loving anyone – missed everyone deeply, and thought of all of you, every blessed day she was on this earth with us.
Kathy’s professional life was marked by her achievement of a Class 1 Driving license, while quarterbacking the administration side of no less than 4 different transportation companies: Ray’s Trucking, Rusty’s Equipment, RTL and Rosenau. She was as hard working, penny-wise and diligent as she was beautiful, and used her driving license to tour all of North America while getting paid to do it.
An avid hockey enthusiast, Kathy’s passion for the Edmonton Oilers was unparalleled. Her spirited cheers could be heard echoing through the stands, especially in the early days when she would get us Oiler tickets so we could watch Gretz, Mess, Kurri and the boys live and in person. Today’s Oiler team had her launching herself into the air with a great shout on numerous occasions, and her eyes would light up anytime we chatted about the good, the bad and yes – once in a blue or orange moon – the oiler ugly.
Kathy’s wisdom and enthusiasm for life made her a cherished friend and mentor to all of us, especially her close friends and former co-workers Helen, Janice and Jenna. Many a raucous tale of laughter – that helped her maintain what was left of her sanity – at the 9-5 jobs run by the silly men, were passed on to us kids. She did not suffer fools gladly, and they knew who they were at times.
Kathy’s life was a testament to the power of love and the importance of duty. She persevered over every obstacle that got in her way, and her awesome legacy will live on through the lives of her children and grandchildren – who will carry forward her unbridled spirit of generosity, humor and wisdom. She was a zesty woman who lived fully, loved deeply, and left an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of those who knew her.
Her physical journey on this earth may have ended, but her life and memory will forever remain a guiding and comforting light for her cherished family and friends.
It was mom’s firm belief that when she passed, she would get to see her dad, mom and brother again. We believe that is exactly where she is – with her best furry buddy Sandy – keeping an eye on us all. May she rest in peace forever, thank you mommy ♥
