Obituary of Kathleen «Kay» Hunt
Kathleen Hunt (nee: Rempel)
1926 – 2024
It’s the end of an era! Mom was the last surviving member of her family and her husband’s family – living to the ripe old age of 98.5 years! She was saddened by the loss of that generation and missed daily conversations with the people who were important to her for many decades.
Mom passed peacefully after 98.5 years of a wonderful life. We, her family are not just mourning her loss but we are celebrating the amazing life she had and the love, wisdom and knowledge that she passed on to all of us. She was commonly referred to as: Kathleen, Kay, Kath, mom, grandma, GG and sometimes Tita.
Kay was born on July 29, 1926, to Suzanne and David Rempel. She is predeceased by the love of her life, her husband Jerome (Jerry) Hunt and her loving daughter Jo-Anne Grant. She is also predeceased by four sisters and their husbands, Mary (Tom) Delion, Olga (Jack) Schnarr, Suzie (Jim) Muldoon and Lydia (Art) Penner. She is also predeceased by her sisters-in-law and their husbands, Kay (Gordon) Knox and Jean (Angus) Horne, and brother-in-law Harry (Doris) Hunt along with several nieces.
Over the years mom had many jobs – Seagrams Distillery, Smiles & Chuckles Chocolates, Towers Department Store, homemaker and babysitter to many children while her own children were growing up. Mom was a great swimmer and was in the pool up until her 90th year. She mastered sewing as a young mom and continued to make use of her sewing machine until age 95. She was a great cook and delighted in making perogies, Christmas cookies, fried potatoes, fried spaghetti and the most delicious roast beef dinner! She was truly a very talented lady.
Mom is survived by me, her daughter Heather (John) Motz and my brother Bill Hunt. She is also survived by her very loving grandchildren: Lynn Grant, Lori Grant (Bruce), Leigh Grant (Cara), Scott Hergott, Tim Hergott (Ashley), Spencer Hunt (Gaby), and James Hunt; her great-grandchildren Mackenna and Marlee McDonell and Carleigh and Maverick Grant; and her step-grandchildren Will Motz (Diana), Kate Motz (Andrew) and their children Adrian, Sascha and Sophie.
The relationship she had with her grandchildren was of utmost importance to her, speaking to them regularly as some were at a distance. She cherished their phone calls and their visits. She shone bright when she spoke of them. She was a very proud mother, grandmother and GG.
Mom will be missed by everyone who had any interaction with her. Her large family at Briarfield Gardens in Kitchener is already missing her presence as she whipped around the place in her power wheelchair which she mastered, even though she never drove a car in her life! It was scary for everyone at first.
I know that mom would like to thank everyone at Briarfield Gardens for the care she received over the last three years. She considered everyone there her family. Thank you also to the kindness, care and compassion of Nurse Wayne and Doctor Gordon in the Grand River Hospital emergency department and everyone who helped make mom comfortable in her last hours. The care and compassion they showed was second-to-none and mom’s family appreciates them.
Rest in peace mom and know that your love will carry us through this difficult time.
A celebration of life will be held at Erb & Good Family Funeral home, 171 King St. S. Waterloo, Ontario on Sunday December 22, 2024, from 12 noon to 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers and because of her love for food, we ask for donations to be made to the Waterloo Regional Food Bank at www.erbgood.com
