«Kaye» Elizabeth, Pomquet, formerly of
William’s Point, passed away suddenly at St.
Martha’s Hospital on November 8, 2024, at the age of
97.
Born in Mattie Settlement, she was
the daughter of the late Simon and Hattie Elizabeth (Delorey)
Mattie.
In her early years, Kathleen worked
as a housekeeper in Mulgrave, and then waitress at South Garden
Restaurant (the Moonlight), prior to her marriage. She operated a
small convenience store in William’s Point until having
children and became a full-time mother to a family of thirteen
children. She was a member of St. Ninian’s CWL and a
longtime member of the Antigonish Lioness Club where she held
positions of secretary, vice-president and president. For many years
Kathleen volunteered her time for functions at the Beech Hill Fire
Hall, cooking turkeys. Her favorite past-times were knitting, going to
bingo, dancing, travelling, attending festivals, camping, checking out
Facebook and playing Mahjong on the iPad.
Kathleen is survived by her eleven
children: Madeline (Wayne) Fougere, Vancouver, BC; Marlene (Mardon)
Martin, Country Harbour Mines, Rosemarie (Ron) Doiron, Bernita (Henry)
Doiron both of Pomquet; Paul (Derek Hutchison) Boucher, Sylvan Lake,
Alberta; Alison (Jean Paul) Boucher Comeau, Meteghan; Elizabeth
Boucher, L’Arche, Antigonish; Vicky (Jim) Fougere, North
Bend, BC; Kathy (Rob) Porter, Dartmouth, Cecil (Karen, Vanderhoof, BC)
Boucher, Halifax, Pierre (Valerie) Boucher, Antigonish; 27
grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren. Sisters: Theresa (late Joe)
Guthro (RK Nursing home/Auld’s Cove) and Dora(Clarence)
MacDonald (Auld’s Cove). Sister in laws; Theresa (late
Damien) DeCoste (Havre Boucher), Anne (John) van Wyk, and Edith
Boucher both from (Arnprior, ON).
She was predeceased by her husband,
Victor Francis Boucher; and two sons, John and James Roy;
granddaughter, Janelle Doiron; brothers: Berkley, Walter and Russell
Mattie and sister, Josephine (Edward) Tate, all of Mattie
Settlement.
There will be no visitation.
Funeral Mass will be held in St. Ninian Cathedral on Friday, November
15, 2024 at 11:00 am with Reverend Doug MacDonald and Deacon Berkley
Guthro presiding. Burial in the parish
cemetery.
The family would like to extend
special thanks to the Antigonish Home Care workers, and those who came
to «Nana sit», especially Helen, Linda and
Gail.
