Kathleen Eva “Bunny” Shelvey passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on March 4, 2024. Bunny was born on November 15, 1943 to James and Eva Burke. Referred to by her father as a sweet little bunny bundled in her winter bunting, the name stuck, and she was bunny ever after.
She was the 10th child out of 13. She leaves behind her beloved husband of 60 years, John Clare “Jack” Shelvey and her daughter Sherry (Ron), son (Dennis) and was predeceased by her daughter Marlene in 1990. She also leaves behind her grandchildren Marla (Lucas), Colton, Jordan, Landon, Robbie (Jodi) and Vicki (Donovan). Two great grandchildren, Kaia and Rhett Romano as well as four siblings and numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
Bunny was adventurous and always looking for the perfect view. She loved the outdoors and she would run around the family farm all year round in bare feet, climbing trees and windmills to get a view that allowed her to see for miles. Not only did she love nature she also had a love for music. She had a lovely singing voice, and through the years she would sing in quartets, choirs and as a soloist for many weddings. She was a woman with many talents, aside from music and beautiful views she was thirsty for knowledge, and she took her education very seriously. She was valedictorian of her graduating class, which then led her to become a caregiver and then to work at the bank in Brandon, Manitoba. It was there she met the love of her life, John Clare (Jack) Shelvey.
They went on to marry on May 9th, 1964. They lived briefly in Brandon until moving to Penticton British Columbia, where they welcomed their Son Dennis James in December 1965. They would go on to have two more children, Sherry in August of 1967 and Marlene in August of 1969. After raising her family, Bunny re-entered the corporate world working for many different law firms but ending her working career at Bell Jacoe, where still to this day has carried on meaningful relationships.
Bunny loved without condition, and if you were lucky enough to find your way into her heart you stayed there forever. She had the ability to make you feel special, valued, and appreciated. She always could find the right words to make everything make sense. She was a safe place. Her hugs were magic (although she hugged so tight you questioned if she would crush your windpipe) but nonetheless you felt the love.
“Death changes everything, Time changes nothing. I still miss the sound of your voice and the ring of your laughter. I miss all the stories you told of your life. I miss you more today than I did when you left.”

A service will be held at Providence Funeral home, 1258 Main Street, Penticton, BC on March 16, 2024 at 11am.
