Obituary For Kathleen Brown (nee Morrell)
December 26,1948-January 6th, 2023.
Born in Hylton Castle, Sunderland, County Durham, England; Kathleen was the eldest of four children, raised with her sister Linda and brothers David and Bryan. They went to school from primary to high school in Hylton Castle. On leaving school, she worked in a local clothing factory. In 1965 she met the love of her life Robert (Robby). They married and had two children, Suzanne and Peter.
In 1979 Kathleen and Robert emigrated to Grande Cache, Canada, where McIntyre Mines were looking for coal mining families. They moved and were instantly “at home” in Grande Cache. Kathleen met Maureen Patterson and Claire Bevin and they became lifelong friends. Kathleen and Robert also spent time in the Yukon and Vancouver Island, where she obtained an ESL degree through the University of Saskatchewan. This degree allowed her to teach multi-culture programs in Nanaimo and obtain employment at Grande Cache Highschool when they moved back in 1989. Kathleen also held multiple positions through Social Services and The Grande Cache Transition House.
“Kath and Bob” could be seen together everywhere; they loved camping and fishing with their children, and when not camping, Kathleen loved knitting, sewing, crocheting, baking and painting local scenery.
Kathleen leaves behind her loving husband, Robby, who has been by her side for 57 years;
daughter Suzanne (Brian), son Peter, and granddaughters Annice (Kyle), Amber, and Ashley (Charles), along with great-grandchildren Liam and Ariyauna and long-time family friend/adopted daughter Donna (Dale)
Kathleen was predeceased by her mother and father, Audrey and Billy Morrell, brother Bryan and close friend Maureen.
An amazing and loving individual, Wife, Mam, Nana, GiGi, and friend, Kathleen was well-loved and will be deeply missed.
