The world lost a bright light on Sunday October 27th, with the passing of Karl James («KP») Petersen. Karl passed away at home surrounded by his loving wife Alicia, devoted family and little dog Zoey after a courageous 19- month battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born in Guelph, Ontario, on September 18th, 1987, Karl led with kindness, respect and loyalty every day of his life. His beautiful smile will be deeply missed but has impacted the lives of everyone that knew him. He will be lovingly remembered by his mother (Karen Petersen), his brothers (Lyle, Donovan and Jake), his in-laws (Mike and Bev), his sibling in-laws (Kelly, Nicole, and Jarrett), his nieces and nephews (Lochlan, Kaeda, Gemma, Eden and Rhys) and all of his extended family and friends.
Karl’s biggest joys included campfires, star watching (and the occasional UFO), Nascar and Formula 1 racing, hockey and collecting diecasts, hockey cards and sports memorabilia. He loved his people hard and always had their best interests at heart. He was a loyal and devoted husband, son, brother, uncle and friend and was admired by all those fortunate enough to be in his life.
Karl is reunited with his father (Leo Petersen), who we know was there waiting for him with open arms. He can now finally have that first beer with his dad, something he always wanted to do. A special thanks to Princess Margaret cancer centre, Grand River Hospital, specifically the chemotherapy suite nurses and the in-home hospice and palliative care team who all provided such compassionate care and support.
Karl’s family will receive relatives and friends from 9:00-10:15am on Monday, November 18th, 2024 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467. A memorial service will follow the visitation at 10:30am in the funeral home chapel. Reception to follow. Private burial at Woodland Cemetery.
