Our loving Karin, Mama and Oma went to be with the Lord peacefully on August 3rd, 2024 at the Grand River Hospital, Kitchener, just two days before her 82nd birthday. She was born August 5th, 1942 in Frankfurt a. Main, Germany. She came to Canada with her husband and daughter in 1967.
She leaves behind her husband of 61 years, Hans-Udo, daughter Sabine (Thomas) Strauss, son Gregory (Marion) Gaensler and six granddaughters Heidi (Clark) Rumble, Linda (Chris) Givlin, Monica Strauss (Bart Verzijlenberg), Sarah (David) Gillman, Hannah (Jeremiah) Ryan, and Leah-Joy Gaensler. She was blessed to be GG Oma to Ellis, Wyatt, Aubrey, Eden, Christopher, Fletcher, Lucy and Amelia. She also leaves behind her loving cousin Horst Hufer and family of North Carolina, and nieces and nephews in British Columbia and Germany.
She was predeceased by her father Eduard (in the last days of World War II) and her mother Else Ochs (1991).
Karin was hardworking and dedicated to providing for her family. She was employed by Piller’s Sausage and Delicatessen for 33 years. In her retirement years she continued to joyfully serve her customers at Kitchener Farmer’s Market. She loved being with people, possessing a wonderful laugh and smile. She always made a point of getting to know the people around her. Karin valued all of the family celebrations and enjoyed many fun-loving moments with longtime friends.
We would like to thank the wonderful staff and caregivers at Winston Park LTC (Sandhills Neighbourhood) as well as the Grand River Hospital 5D South doctors, nurses and staff.
Karin’s family will receive relatives and friends from 11:00 AM – 11:45 AM with a funeral service in the chapel at 12:00 PM on Monday, August 5th, 2024 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467. A light reception will be held following the service.
Karin loved her pets. In memory of her, donations to the Kitchener-Waterloo Humane Society are appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
