Juliet Wilhelmina Lincoln-Cavadias Obituary
Juliet Lincoln-Cavadias passed on December 15, a little short of her goal of 103 and with a long to-do list that kept her optimistic and forward looking.
Born July 26, 1931, Juliet lived her first 14 years in the fertile hills near Yercaud, India where her father William grew coffee and teak. It was here that her love for the outdoors and the peaceful pursuit of gardening first took root; perhaps as an escape from disquieting family events.
She arrived in Montreal in 1956 after several moves across England and was followed by her soon to be husband of 66 years, the late Byron Cavadias. They promptly grew a family and she is survived by her children Alex, Michael, Diana and Philip and grandchildren Stephanie, Madeleine, Kurt, William, Phoebe, Amara and Nerine.
Juliet was rightfully proud of the gardens she created in Pierrefonds, Beaconsfield, Brockville and her masterpiece in Kingston where she grew award-winning roses. She liked to grow from seeds and cuttings and many of her basements became elaborate nurseries to fill the winter hours.
Tennis was another passion, picking it up in boarding school and becoming an avid member of several clubs where she met many good friends. In her later years she never missed the elegant backhands of Roger Federer whenever televised.
A keen traveller, she was particularly fond of Greece and Byron’s family, taking Greek lessons to the end in preparation for her next trip(s).
Juliet was not problem oriented and believed laughter was the best medicine. Of course, acupuncture, CBD and vitamin C were pretty good too. Her faith was also important and it all lead to a very healthy 93 years. Always ready to laugh at the absurd and herself, she would have hoped that we remember her with a smile.
A funeral service and reception is being held Saturday, December 28 at 1:00pm at the James Reid Funeral Home, 1900 John Counter Blvd, Kingston. The Service will be livestreamed. To register and view the livestream, please CLICK HERE.
