In remembrance of Julian Dolegowski
March 28, 1935 to May 2, 2023
“A Father’s love is forever imprinted on his child’s heart.”
…Jennifer Williamson
On the 2 nd day of May Julian Dolegowski passed away peacefully with family by his side after experiencing complications due to a long standing cancer illness. His journey in this life has ended but this marks the beginning of a new journey rejoined with his beloved wife of 63 years Janina Dolegowski who died less than a year ago and is still sorely missed. Julian was 88 years old and is remembered fondly by family, friends and care givers.
Julian was born in the small village of Lubatowka in south eastern Poland on March 28, 1935. He was the youngest of twelve children. Sponsored by his brother Walter, Julian immigrated to Canada in April of 1959 at the age of 24 in search of a better life. His wife and son soon followed and they expanded their family with two daughters. He worked in the construction industry initially before getting a job at Ford Motor Company as an assembly line worker and line inspector. He worked at Ford for 37 years before retiring in the year 2000. The achievement and recognition of his long service is one of the things he
was most proud of.
Julian was a long time parishioner of St. Stanislaus Kostka church and after retirement from Ford Motor Company Ltd. he became a more active member of the senior’s club where
many games of bingo were played and laughter shared. His voice was always the loudest in the room and he loved joking and poking fun…his friends thought he was hilarious.
In 2016 Julian was diagnosed with throat cancer and had a full laryngectomy. Suddenly the loudest guy in the room became the quietest. It was a very difficult recovery and the journey to a “new normal” was filled with the fear of the unknown. His loving wife Janina cared for him, tending to his every need despite her own worsening health until she passed in July of 2022. His last few months were spent at Copernicus Lodge, a long term care home primarily catering to residents of Polish decent. Visited often by his children and grandchildren Julian was always in good spirits and ready for a card game of “Go Fish”. Even as his health deteriorated he had patience, understanding and a big smile for those who were involved in his care. The staff called him “sweetie”.
Julian is predeceased by his ever loving wife of 63 years Janina. Remembered fondly by his son Walter, daughters Christine and Diane, their spouses Deb, Andrew and Richard and grand (and great grand) children Brandon (and Emily), Monika (and Ismael), Katya, Jeff (and Irene), Julia (and Daniel), Conrad, Dean and Colt. Julian leaves behind a legacy of love of family and respect for the results of hard work. Although he is no longer with us physically he will live on in our hearts and memories as he reunites with his beautiful wife.
We love you and miss you already!
