Obituary of Judith Lee Webster
It is with profound sadness to announce my mom, Judy, passed away suddenly and peacefully, Tuesday October 17, 2023, with me by her side.
Judy is survived by myself, her daughter Sage (Shaun Drake and Kalysa); her sisters Beverly Hinds, Susan Anton, Sydney Redpath (George Lumsden), Kelly English (John); her brother-in-law Wayne Broatch and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
Judy is predeceased by her parents, George and Eva Bailey; sister Leslie Broatch; and brother-in-Law Robert Hinds.
Judy was born in Edmonton, Alberta, 4th in the line of 6 strong Bailey women. Over the course of her 75 years, she lived in various places such as Pierrefonds, QC, Williams Lake, BC, Thompson, MB and Winnipeg, MB, which is where she called home.
Judy had a range of careers from working at Seagram’s, to a long rein with Royal Bank of Canada, Winpark Dynasty Properties Ltd., and finally retiring in 2013 from TD Waterhouse.
Judy’s love of her family and friends was absolute. It gave her the utmost pleasure to gab on the telephone, or make memories in person, none more especially than over a shared meal. Judy loved to cook and to read. So very rarely would you find her without a book in hand. Judy had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh, always a joke at the ready (be it good or awful). Judy also was a lover of music, card and boards games, and certainly willing to torture you with a word puzzle (Nelly Kelly, A trip to Europe and a big fat hen be damned).
Mom, I miss you terribly. That being said, it makes my heart smile to know that your mind and health are fully restored, finally able to be at peace. It has been an honor to be your daughter and advocate. I know that you are vigorously writing down everything you ever remembered to forget, and I sincerely hope you found where you last parked your car. To the pistachio industry and Maynard’s Wine Gum’s, I sincerely apologize for the huge drop in sales you are about to experience, Judy was your biggest consumer, for that I am sure. I love you forever and always mommy, xoxo Your Toad.
“Memory is a way of holding on to the things you love, the things you are, and the things you never want to lose” T. W. Y.
To Beacon Hill Lodge, thank you to all of you who provided care to Judy. You empowered her to live her best life in her weakest moment with grace and dignity. You gave Shaun and I solace in knowing that mom was safe, 24/7, for the last 8 years. We are so very grateful to all of you who helped us along the way. Your care was impeccable and we couldn’t have asked for more.
To Betty, I love you eternally, you went above and beyond in your care for Judy and without you (and your husbands curried chicken and pilau), I am sure this journey wouldn’t have been as smooth as you helped it to be. I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Family forever.
To Dr. S. L. Bilenki, Dr. W. P. Ring, and all the doctors, nurses, health care aides and staff at St. Boniface Hospital; thank you for taking on the challenge and mystery Judy presented in the last three weeks with the utmost care, communication and comfort. As well, to the switchboard for treating Judy with the most patience, kindness and respect with every call made to you for menus, soup and coffee.
To Mackie Love, Steven Love and staff, thank you for always looking out for Judy and myself. You’ve always had mom’s best interests at heart and for that I express my greatest appreciation.
To Bev Lischinski, you were Judy’s best friend, biggest supporter and confidant. Mom cherished her friendship with you and I cannot thank you enough for everything you’ve done for her and with her. Memories well made for sure.
As per Judy’s wishes there will be no service.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society of Manitoba or Judy’s favorite charity, The Children’s Wish foundation, Make-A-Wish Manitoba.
