It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joyce Marie (Smith) Leary of Upper Falmouth, on her 57th wedding anniversary, Monday, June 3, 2024, in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor, at the age of 78. Born in Cambridge, Hants Co., she was a daughter of the late Ainslie and Janie (Brown) Smith.
Joyce was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and aunt. She enjoyed being at home reading, crosswords and baking. Years ago, she would spend the summer baking and making pickles. The house would always smell of pickles as soon as you stepped inside.
She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Garth; son, Darren (Lisa); daughter, Annette Barkhouse; two grandsons whom she was blessed with, Ryan Barkhouse and his faithful dog, Copper and Chris Leary (Abby); brother, Ron (Sandy) Smith and many other extended family members.
Besides her parents, Joyce was predeceased by sister, Betty Sanford; son-in-law, Terry Barkhouse; many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317), where a funeral service will be held on Friday, June 7 at 11:00 a.m., Rev. Garnet Parker officiating. Burial will immediately follow in St. George’s Anglican Cemetery, Sangster Bridge Rd., Upper Falmouth. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Joyce may be made to the Hants Co. SPCA, PO Box 2274, Windsor NS B0N 2T0.
