Joyce Ida Kadachuk (Lofdahl) was born December 11, 1936, to Severina and Oscar Lofdahl. Joyce grew up under the care and love of her parents and three older sisters. The Lofdahl family lived in the North Star district, and once school aged, Joyce attended North Star School. Growing up in a very musical family, Joyce learned to play the organ by ear at a young age, a talent that stayed with her throughout her life.
A new era began when Joyce met a handsome young man by the name of Harry Kadachuk at a dance in Fairy Glen. On October 16, 1958, Joyce and Harry were married. The couple had two daughters, Carla and Colette.
In 1968, the Kadachuk family made a big move from Melfort to their new farm in the Brooksby area where the couple farmed with Harry’s brother John. This was a new adventure for the young family with farm animals, granaries that turned into makeshift playhouses, sloughs to skate on, and endless prairie for snowmobiling and mini biking. From helping around the farm, feeding animals, gardening, canning, and preparing meals for the field, Joyce was an integral part of the Kadachuk farm.
Family meant everything to Joyce. She was elated when her girls got married, Carla to Grant Crozon and Colette to Milt Ogren – the sons she had always wanted. Joyce loved “the boys” like her own and looked for any opportunity to prank them with a good gag gift or practical joke. The true loves of Joyce’s life were her “chickadees” (her grandchildren), Jill and Jace Crozon, and Jasmin and Megan Ogren. Joyce was an unwavering constant in her grandchildren’s life. Joyce and Harry enjoyed attending hockey games, concerts, recitals, and skating carnivals and never missed a family birthday celebration. There was not a skating dress Joyce wouldn’t sew, a song she wouldn’t learn on the organ, or a recipe she wouldn’t cook for her grandchildren.
Joyce’s kind soul and keen interest in caring for others served her well throughout her work at Melfort Union Hospital, Melfort Geriatric Centre, Nirvana Pioneer Villa, and Parkland Regional Care Centre.
Joyce will be remembered for her keen sense of humour, quick wit, generous heart, and unconditional love.
Joyce was predeceased by her husband Harry Kadachuk; daughter Colette Ogren; parents Severina and Oscar Lofdahl; sister Hazel Tieken; sister Violet Edeen and her husband Axel, and brothers-in-law Art Edeen and John Kadachuk, niece Denise Cornish, and great nephew Ron Ferguson.
Joyce passed away January 24, 2023, at the age of 86. She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her family Carla, Grant, Jill, Jace Crozon, and Milt, Jasmin, Megan Ogren; sister Elsie Edeen; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
