Passed peacefully away December 21, 2023, at the age of 91 in the presence of her family, Joyce Agnes Tibbo (nee Brownlee). Joyce was recently predeceased by her husband of 69 years, Frank Tibbo, O.N.L..
She is survived by children Nancy (Paul Wadden), Barry (Debbie Goulding), Barbara (Wayne Legge) and Beverly (Mark Bradbury); grandchildren Andrew Tibbo (Vanessa), Adam Tibbo (Allison), Emily Wadden, Ashley Melnick and Katherine Melnick; great grandchildren Olivia, Trey and Blake Tibbo. She also leaves her brother Glendon, sister Barbara Hargassner, brothers-in-law Ewart (Marion Best), Roy and Terry (Beverley Clarke) and many friends and relatives. Joyce was predeceased by her parents Emily (Armstrong) and Arthur Brownlee as well as brothers and sisters: Louella MacMillan, Roy, Norman, Anne Boucher, William, Hugh and Percy.
Joyce was born October 6, 1932, in Newington, Ontario. She and Frank met in Ottawa and were married in Newington in 1954. They found their way to Moncton and then to Gander where she embraced the Newfoundland spirit.
Joyce was the consummate hostess, cook, baker and gardener. She was an avid berry picker and became known for her cookies, muffins and jams. Joyce was a devoted community volunteer with the United Church Women, the Social Club, the 50+ Club and the Gander school libraries. She was an enthusiastic sports fan and an outstanding athlete in softball, golf, curling and league bowling. Year after year she and Frank travelled to the beautiful communities and outports around NL in their motorhome. They loved exploring and hiking with their friends and having boil-ups any season of the year. They travelled the world, visiting many countries and cruise destinations. Joyce enjoyed square dancing with Frank and learning to play the guitar and ukulele in her later years.
Special thanks to the staff of Oram’s Bethesda 2 as well as the staff of James Paton Memorial Hospital. Funeral Arrangements are entrusted to Stacey’s Funeral Home, Gander. Visitation is scheduled for 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 on December 28. Funeral service will be in Gander at Fraser Road United Church on December 29 at 10:30 AM. Donations to Fraser Road United Church or the United Church Women gratefully accepted in Joyce’s name.
