With sadness we announce that Joy passed away peacefully at Lisaard House on December 15, 2023 at the age of 88.
Beloved wife of the late Frederick Bent for over 64 years.
Sister of Paul Hoffman (the late Rose Ellen).
Joy will be greatly missed and remembered by family members: Pauline Spaetzel (the late George); Merilyn Armour (the late Bill) and family – especially Liana & Paul Field, Willow & Lachlan; Jonathan Spaetzel; Libby & Steve Blakely, Warren; Sonja Spaetzel & Jarrett Gerke, Sebastian; the late Esther & the late John Price family; along with many other family members and dear friends. The family would like to extend special thanks to Dale and to Marc for their loving friendship and help with Joy.
Joy was an Executive Assistant, working the majority of her career at E & E Seegmiller, then for over 10 years at Boehmers. She was proud of her work and loyal to each company she worked with. After retirement, Joy spent 31 years volunteering at Grand River Hospital, serving in the Cancer Centre and on the Ethics Committee. She also volunteered for the Alzheimer Society in honour of her mother, Grace, whom she spent many years caring for. These last few years were mostly spent in loving care of her husband Fred until he passed away.
Joy loved the outdoors. She enjoyed the many trips to their cabin, planting her flowers, and watching for the birds nesting nearby. Visiting the West Coast every year, and twice the East Coast, was a major highlight for Joy. She especially loved watching the large ships and tugboats in the harbour. She enjoyed both Jazz and Classical music, with Tony Bennet or Barbara Streisand usually top of her list. Joy loved all things quality, including her coffee! Good food shared with good company always made Joy smile. Her care and genuine interest in people’s lives endeared her to us all. We will miss Joy and the love she showered on us, with her smile, her attention, and her little «just because» gifts.
Joy’s family will receive relatives and friends from 1:30 – 3:15 PM on Friday, December 29, 2023 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick St. Kitchener (519) 749-8467. A memorial service will take place at 3:30 PM in the chapel of the funeral home on Friday followed by a reception.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Grand River Hospital-Cancer Centre and Lisaard & Innisfree Hospice would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home 519-749-8467).
