Obituary of Joseph Postnikoff
It is with deep sadness and gratitude for a life well lived that we announce that our husband, dad, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend Joe Postnikoff went to be with our ancestors following a short illness at the age of 91. Left to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, Veronica, daughters, Sharon (Doug) Deyotte, Alison Poste (Alain Delisle), Leila (Russ) Jones, grandchildren Alec (Leanne) and Clark Winsor, Zyenna Hadden, great grandchildren Kenzie and Mabrey Winsor and Honey Winsor, sister Mary Ella (Bernie) Shutyr, brother Alec (Marlene) Postnikoff, and numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, and brothers John and Mike.
Joe and his three brothers, John, Mike and Alec and a little sister Mary Ella (who came later) lived with his parents, Mike and Rita Postnikoff, by the Saskatchewan River where his Dad operated the Petrofka Ferry. Joe kept his parents on edge with climbing towers and swimming across the river.
Later when they moved to a farm, Joe had his own hay rack and team of horses to help out at harvest going from farm to farm. He also began work with the Sask. Highways in his late teens and spent a few years working throughout Sask. When the family moved to Saskatoon he began work with the City of Saskatoon Electrical Dept., a job he held for 34 years.
On April 12, 1969, Joe married Veronica Galambos. With his daughter Sharon from a previous marriage and two new daughters, Alison and Leila our family was complete. For a time he continued to help his brothers with farming but decided to get into building homes doing all the electrical and interior finishing. Eight new homes were built, each one nicer than the last.
Veronica and Joe took many bus trips to the States, Alaska, Maritimes and Western Canada, with the most enjoyable a river boat cruise throughout Europe.
Joe was always a great singer, singing with the Doukhobor and United Church choir. On Christmas Eve he would sing in Russian, “Silent Night”. He also took part in stoking the ovens at the Doukhobor’s bread booth Exhibition grounds.
His favorite pastimes were playing cards, especially cribbage, golfing, and curling at the Hub City Curling rink. His nearly perfect cribbage record remains intact.
Joe was a loving Daddy to his children and a proud grandfather. His wife was always proud of him and loved his happy go lucky ways. He was a fine, upstanding person who believed in hard work and saving for a rainy day.
In his later years he tolerated discomfort and never complained. He will be dearly missed and forever loved.
The Funeral Service will be at 11:00 am, Thursday, March 21, 2024 at Mount Royal Emmanuel United Church, 521 Vancouver Ave N, Saskatoon.
