Obituary
The death of J. Murray Legere occurred peacefully at St Joseph’s hospital on June 3, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Murray was born November 16, 1939, in Saint John and was a lifelong resident. He was the youngest son of Guillaume (William) and Mary (Chaisson) Legere.
He graduated from Simonds Regional High School in 1957 and shortly after, he entered The Servants of the Paraclete. After several years he left the seminary to marry and start a family.
He worked many jobs over the years including bank manager for The Provincial Bank of Canada, foreman at Saint John Shipbuilding and retired with The John Howard Society.
He was a lifelong member of Knights of Columbus Council 8364.
Murray was a lifelong volunteer; Scouts Canada, Catholic Church, Loch Lomond Villa and teaching English to foreign students to name a few.
Murray was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and uncle. He was a pillar of strength for his family and provided guidance and strength to many.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Audrey (Naves) Legere, four children Michael (Heather Adamson) of Saint John, Jeffrey (Rachelle) of Fort McMurray, AB, Maria of Saint John, David (Bobbi) of Swift Current, SK and special nephew Teehan Naves (RaeAnn) of Foothills, AB. In addition to his children he is survived by his six grandchildren, Jeremy Legere of Fredericton, Kaitlyn Legere, Jared Legere and Brandon Legere of Saint John, Morgan Legere of Kitchener, Ontario and Tristin Legere of Swift Current, SK
Also survived by siblings Raymond Legere, Freda Parlee and Doreen Legere all of Saint John, sister in laws Sister Anita Naves of Saint John, Dian (Charles) Wilson of Saint John, Debra Allan of Saint John, Catherine Legere of Foothills, AB, Linda Naves of Saint John, brothers-in-law Gary (Kathy) Naves, George (Doreen) Naves and Gerry Macrae all of Saint John, Kevin (Sheri) Naves of Rothesay and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents: William and Mary Legere, he was predeceased by brothers Lawrence Legere of Peterborough, ON, Ronald Legere of Damascus, NB, Gerald Legere of Saint John, NB, sisters Theresa Piermarini of Leominster, MA, USA, Evelyn Haeber of Aldergrove, BC, brother in laws David Parlee of Saint John, James Naves of Saint John, William Allan of Rothesay, Al Haeber of Aldergrove, BC, Richard Piermarini of Leominster, MA, USA, Murray O’Connor of Saint John, sister in laws Penny Legere of Dartmouth, NS, Edith Legere of Saint John, Marilyn MacRae of Saint John, Linda Pollock of Saint John, and Terry Legere of Toronto, ON.
The family sends special thanks to the staff of St. Joseph’s Hospital for their care, support and compassion.
Arrangements are in the care of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (506-646-2424). The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Thursday, June 8, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in Stella Maris Church, Bayside Drive, Saint John, on Friday, June 9, 2023, at 12 noon. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery with a reception to follow at Stella Maris.
