It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Joseph Garfield MacDonald, 81, on November 29, 2023 at the Toronto General Hospital, surrounded by his family.
Born in New Waterford, Nova Scotia, he was the son of the late Peter and Belle (Basker) MacDonald. He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Marilyn Anne (Gillis); son, Parker; daughters, Caryn and Greta; grandchildren, Matthew and Kristen; sisters, Jean Lestage (Gilles) and Bernadette Donovan (George) and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Garfield was predeceased by his brothers, Ronald («Ronnie») and Byron and sisters, Maria Goretti and Rosemarie.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Toronto General Hospital, most especially the Thoracic unit for the capable and loving care they provided for Garfield.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 5 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Hogle Funeral Home, 63 Mimico Ave. Toronto. A funeral mass officiated by Fr. Donatello will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Etobicoke followed by burial at St. Elias Cemetery, Brampton.
