Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Joseph (Bernie Ben) Bernard Benoit, announces his sudden passing at the Dr. Charles L LeGrow Health Centre on December 27, 2024, at the age of 89 years. He leaves to mourn; his loving wife, of almost 52 years, Ivy, his sons, Paul, of Port aux Basques, and Jeremy (Lyla) of Doyles, his daughters, Natasha of Hammonds Plains and Sherry (Tom Hepditch) of Scarborough. His three beautiful grandchildren; Alexis, Kaitlyn and Leo as well as his son in law Bob Canning of NS. He will also be remembered by his brother Raymond Bennett (Mary) of Doyles; his sister in law Linda Lomond of Port aux Basques, and his brothers in law George (Gladys) Lomond of Summerside PEI and Richard (Ginger) Lomond of Cold Brook, NS.
Bernie was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Mary Benoit, his parents in law Maxwell and Ivy Lomond, his brother Thomas Benoit; nephew Andrew Benoit; and in laws Lillian (Bill Hickey), Max (Kitty) Lomond, James (Rita) Lomond, Alfreda (Wilbur) Wells, Robert Lomond and Philip Lomond and a large circle of nieces, nephews and cousins and friends.
Bernie had a heart of gold and he was always there to help anyone in need. He’d give anyone the shirt off his back. He was a kind, generous soul who loved to joke and laugh. Half the time he would crack up telling a joke and you would have to wait patiently for him to get to the punch line.
He was very involved in his community and as a result received a number of awards over the years including the Canada 125 Medal. Bernie was a member of various committees of the Codroy Valley Credit Union, CV Lions Club, Knights of Columbus, the CV Winter Carnival and anything else that was on the go in the community.
Friends and family are welcome to visit on Monday, December 30th from 2 – 4 PM and for a Wake Service from 7 – 9 PM at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Upper Ferry. In keeping with his wishes, cremation will follow. Mass of a Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, January 2nd at 2 PM from St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Upper Ferry, with Father Prakash officiating. Interment of ashes will follow at the Mount St. Thomas Roman Catholic Cemetery, Great Codroy. Funeral arrangements were in the care of East Haven Funeral Home, Port aux Basques.
