On February 7, 2024, Joseph Andre Gaulin lost the lifelong war against his demons. He was, however, extremely proud of the battles that he had won, the obstacles he had overcome in his far too short life. He was the youngest of five children born to Evelyn Myers, in the City of Welland, Ontario. Though he may not have always seen eye to eye with his older siblings, June Myers, Bettyanne Riedel, Horst Riedel, and Joseph Lucian Gaulin, he loved each and every one of them dearly. He was born on September 29, 1972, and it didn’t take long to realize that his free spirit could not be contained. He spent his life travelling Canada, from BC all the way to Newfoundland, where he spent many years with the love of his life. His travels were devoted to touching people’s hearts and creating art along the way.
He could always fill a room with great conversation, and not just because he always had something to talk about. Because every word that he ever spoke was so filled with passion. He cared, so deeply, for the things that he believed in. He loved, so sincerely, those he considered family. He gave, so generously, without ever wanting anything in return. His laughter, although deafening at times, could be contagious. He could make jokes, that really weren’t that funny (sorry Uncle Andy), and as soon as he started to laugh, you just couldn’t help but join him.
His love of people, and determination to help them, had definitely gotten him into some trouble over the years. It had also helped enable him to find beauty in things that most cannot, hence his love of abstract art. Every piece that has been created by him is so full of emotion, ranging from happiness to sadness to anger. He hoped that by putting his feelings, regardless of the nature, into his art, it might reach someone, motivate them perhaps.
His ability to find joy in even the smallest of things should inspire us all to make the best of what we have, and to love and appreciate the life that we are living right now. He will be greatly missed and always remembered by family and friends. He will always be cherished by his niece, Elishia Myers, and nephew, Aron Riedel, who will forever remember his love and acceptance, even in their darkest of moments.
