Pinheiro, Jose, 83, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2024. Born on March 24, 1941, to parents Gil to and Elvira in Freguesia Da Conceição, Faial, Azores, he was the youngest of his 11 siblings: Merces, Manuel, Maria, Conceição, Inez, Fernando, Gil, Maria, Maria, Elvira, and Jose. He was a devoted husband to Odete, the love of his life. They were married on March 1, 1963, and immigrated to Canada in the early 1960’s. Jose is profoundly missed by Odete. Their relationship was a testament to unconditional love for both each other and for their family. Together, they shared a lifetime of cherished moments. Odete dedicated her life to Jose, standing by his side, her love serving as a strength and comfort. Throughout his life, Jose worked incredibly hard as a skilled stonemason—even after his retirement. Despite his life-changing injury in 2003 doing what he loved, he remained strong and adapted with positivity and grace. He chose to always see the brighter side of life. He continued to build and create, and enjoyed woodworking in his garage, crafting beautiful and detailed gifts for family. Jose had a passion for music: he enjoyed playing the harmonica and accordion. He found such joy sharing songs and dances with family and friends—especially with Odete. They loved to dance. His family fondly remembers them tearing up the dance floor with exceptional skill. With a great sense of humour, Jose loved to laugh and make others laugh, too. He was the life of the party. Everyone who knows and loves Jose remembers good times and happy memories at his house or at The Portuguese Club with music, dancing, and great food. Jose was a devout member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Cambridge. His Catholic faith was a cornerstone of his life. He found strength and community in the Church, and his commitment extended beyond mere attendance; not only did he contribute to building the church itself, he enjoyed participating in annual festas and parades. Jose’s greatest joy came from spending time with his family. He was a hard-working and loving father to his four children: Lucy, Elden, Joe (Lucy), and Paul; a cherished grandfather to Emily (Alex), Katrina (Chris), Nicole (Kevin), Brooklyn (Gillom), Josh, Sydney (Brandan), Devon and Jordan; and a great-grandfather to Mason, Jack, Max, and Julia. He was a beloved son, brother, uncle, brother-in-law, godfather, cousin, and friend. Resting at Corbett’s Funeral Home, 95 Dundas Street, N., Cambridge, family and friends will be received on Monday, May 27 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Services will be held on Tuesday, May 28 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Parish, 185 Elgin Street, S., Cambridge, with interment to follow at Mount View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Lisaard House in Jose’s name would be greatly appreciated. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and staff at Lisaard for their compassionate support during Jose’s time in their care.
