Obituary of John Leo Porter
It is with broken hearts that the family of John Porter, husband and best friend of Heather (Taylor) announces his sudden passing on Monday, October 23, 2023, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. John was born on August 10, 1965, in Saint John, NB, and was the son of the late Leo and Ada (Burke) Porter.
John graduated from Saint John Vocational School in 1983 and then began his career at Canada Post. He played many sports and especially had a love for bowling like his dad. He grew up on the west side of Saint John (Westsider). John was a dedicated and proud father of his children, whom he loved spending every minute with. He always made himself available for his children whether it was giving advice or looking
out for their safety. John was a proud “hockey dad” through and through. His love of hockey also allowed him to be a timekeeper for a local men’s league.
John and Heather enjoyed playing co-ed softball where they created many friendships. During their 19 happy years of marriage, they made many memories together including going on various trips. John’s trips to Florida with his family were some of his all-time favourites although his trip to Europe was also a highlight. John had a love for driving and he loved to explore new places with Heather. Recently, John and Heather purchased a pair of electric bikes and had fun peddling around the neighbourhood.
John worked for Canada Post for many years and planned to retire in May. He enjoyed his many conversations with his customers at the Rothesay Post Office. His kind and calming personality was noted by anyone who met him. John was always up for a good time, and he truly enjoyed hosting the “famous” annual washer toss tournament where he loved watching everyone have fun.
John is survived by his loving wife, Heather; his children, Andrew, Leah, and Jack; sisters Debbie (Greg) Henderson, Elaine Clifford and Sandra Porter; brother Tony Porter; sisters-in-law Kim Taylor (Ed Nickerson) and Beth Taylor. He was predeceased by his parents; his in-laws Frank and Louise Taylor; his brother-in-law Neil Clifford and nephew JC Haas.
Arrangements are under the care of Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Rd. Quispamsis (506-849-2119), with visiting on Friday, October 27, 2023, from 2:00-4:00 PM and 6:00-8:00 PM. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at 11:00 AM. A private Interment will take place at Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery following the reception.
