Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of the late John Young of Piccadilly announce his passing at the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital in Stephenville on Monday, July 31st, 2023 at the age of 84 years. John passed peacefully surrounded by his loving son and daughters; along with the children he raised together with his final partner, Marjorie.
He leaves to mourn with many loving memories: his son John Jr. (Viola); his daughters: Kay (Gordon) Carey, Isabelle Josephine (John) Seymour, Bertha Ann (Gerald) Gaudon, Kathleen Marie Young, and Trena Margaret Young (Sheldon Robia); his grandchildren: Phillip, Megan, Aubrey, Nicholas, Sean, Jesenta, and Andre; his great grandchildren: River, Matthew, Jelena, Jean, and Vladimir; and his sisters: Gertrude, Melissa, and Matilda; as well as the families he raised with Marjorie and Teenie; and a large circle of extended family and friends.
John was predeceased by: his wife Marie Young (nee Gabriel), partner Augustine “Teenie” Harview (nee Felix), and partner Marjorie Young; baby daughter Agnes; grandson Thomas O’Brien; parents Andrew & Isabella Young; brothers: Reginald, William, Kenneth, Dominic, and Andrew; and sisters: Alice, Cecilia, Zetha, and Carrey.
While John was a professional Commercial Painter, he loved painting artwork and woodcrafts for personal pleasure and also enjoyed his time in nature, fishing, hunting, gathering firewood for the winter, and snowmobile trips in the back-country. Much of his time included teaching his dog, Patches various tricks, playing cards with family & friends, and attending dances where he was always able to find willing partners to join him on the floor for a spin. John was a social man and above all, he was a proud Father.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 2nd, from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at Russell’s Funeral Home, 57 Prince Rupert Drive, Stephenville.
A Funeral Service will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Piccadilly on Thursday, August 3rd at 11am, with interment to follow at the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Piccadilly. As expressions of sympathy donations in John’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Special thanks to the Nurses and Doctors at the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital, who took such good care with Dad in his final days.
Honorable mentions: Paddy & Geraldine Harview; Nephew Jason Young & his wife, Amanda; Sandra, Ann & Lisa,‘the Girls’; Melvin Young, Nephew and ‘driving buddy’; the Home Care Workers, particularly Katie Tourout; Staff at Domino’s Pizza House, and many others who checked in on John, had him in for meals, saved a spot for him at Tim’s, and generally rounded out his full life.
