As was his wish, Jack passed away at home on July 14, 2023 well into his 98th year after an interesting and rewarding life.
Jack was the husband of the late Kathleen (2011) for over 63 years. He was the father of John (Barb), Martha Collins (Ron), Ken and Peter; grandfather to the late Stephanie Collins (2019) (Chris), Cameron, Andrew Collins (Lisa), Ian (Melissa), Kyle (Saika), Rob (Soyeon), Justin and Dana and great grandfather to MacKenzie, Liam, Liam, Campbell and Archie.
Born in Toronto, Jack delivered flyers and tended bees in order to finance his education. He attended Lawrence Park Collegiate where he met Kathleen and graduated with his degree in architecture from the University of Toronto. Jack was a partner in Weir Cripps Architects and was Senior Vice President of MEPC Properties prior to his early retirement. Jack was also an entrepreneur, investing in real estate, the travel industry, restaurants & funeral homes. Farming was his final adventure.
Jack and Kathleen were longtime residents of Toronto, summering on Portage Bay, Muskoka and wintering in Naples, Florida. Over forty-five years ago, Kathleen and Jack discovered the beauty of the Hockley Valley and relocated to Mono Township. Highland Farm Relessey became their home and the gathering place of their family and many friends. He spent his final years in the home that he designed and built in Orangeville.
Jack’s family wishes to thank the many caregivers from St. Elizabeth, Care Partners and Closing the Gap who allowed Jack to stay in his home. Special thanks to Mandy, Kyrie and Debbie for their superb care and to Josie for her boundless care and companionship through Jack’s final years. Thanks also to Dr. Mori and Dr. Candusso who together with her palliative team provided comfort.
A private family interment of Jack’s ashes will take place in Relessey Cemetery.
Rather than floral tributes, the family asks that friends consider a contribution to the Headwaters Health Care Foundation, Relessey Cemetery or a charity of your choice.
A tree will be planted in memory of Jack in the Dods & McNair Memorial Forest at the Island Lake Conservation Area, Orangeville. 21st Annual Dedication Service will be held on Sunday, September 10, 2023 at 2:00 p.m.
