Died peacefully at home in the loving
arms of Madonna, his wife of 53 years.
Predeceased by his parents, John
Francis and Anastasia; his sisters and spouses, Bridget and Aloysius
Foley, Josephine and Kevin Ford; his father and mother-in-law, Edward
and Bridget Griffin; brother-in-law and spouse, Donald and Marg
Griffin; sister-in-law, Theresa Faith; as well as brothers-in-law, Max
O’Reilly, Dave Baldwin and Jim Redmond.
Leaving to mourn his children, Dean
(Lyvonne), Jackie, Pete (Joan), Johnny (Kim); his grandchildren, Ryan,
Chelsey (Bryan), Cody (Brittany), Justin, Luke, Keisha, Heidi and
Jessica; his great-grandchildren Cayden, Ryder, Lexie, and Lilly; as
well as Cody’s mom Terrilynn and a large circle of family and
friends.
John was born on Red Island and spent
his life on the sea. He loved to tell stories of his 27 years on the
offshore draggers, 26 years on mid water boats at the inshore fishery.
John finished his career working with captain Ambrose McCarthy on the
tugboats.
John has left a mark on everyone that
knew him. He has touched so many lives with his kindness and
generosity. There will be holes in many hearts. We hope he captains
his ship with fair sailing winds to the gates of heaven where his nets
are always full.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to
Maher’s Funeral Home, Placentia. Visitation to take place on
Thursday, November 30th from 7pm to 9pm, and Friday, December 1st from
2pm to 5pm and 7pm to 9pm. Funeral Service to take place 10:30am on
Saturday, December 2nd at Maher’s Funeral Home, Placentia, followed by
inurnment at Dermot McGettigan Memorial Cemetery, Southeast
Placentia.
