John Taylor Jones – 92, Truro, formerly of Moncton,
New Brunswick. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing
of John Taylor Jones on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 in Truro. Born in
Hillsborough, New Brunswick, he was the only child of the late
Jonnie and Violet (Taylor) Jones. John told us he had a great
life making others happy and keeping others safe. He was proud that he
had been able to get along with most people; this shows in his
accomplishments.
He grew up in Hillsborough, New Brunswick and attended school
there. In grade seven, he met Isabel Jean Devinney, the love of his
life. He attended Mount Allison Academy and during his time there
he made more lifelong friends. He started work as a carman
with Canadian National Railway in Moncton in 1949, married Isabel in
1951 and started their family. John took pride in a job well done and
constantly learning. He advanced through the ranks during his
career with CN. He relocated for management positions in Rockingham
(NS), Fairview (NS), Truro (NS), Moncton (NB) and Montreal (PQ). He
held various management positions and completed his career as the
Canada Transport Commission Rolling Stock Inspector for Atlantic
Canada.
John is survived by his loving wife of 71+ years, Isabel
(Devinney); daughter, Kathy (Randy) McCarthy; son, David Jones (Krista
Stott-Jones); grandchildren Dustin McCarthy (Allison), Tara McCarthy
(James Tremere), Madalin Jones, Mathias Jones; great grandchildren,
Stella, Maverick, Brielle, Taiten. Along with his parents, he was
predeceased by his son, Daniel John Fredrick Jones in
2020.
Throughout his life he enjoyed learning, doing and sharing
his knowledge and skills. He had varied interests including
outdoor pursuits; building his camp at Hart Lake, four wheeling,
hunting, fishing, creating and repairing whatever he found.
Many still have one of his weather sticks. His motto of
«find a better way to do something» and his creative mind
and talents were evident in the activities he became involved in. John
displayed his talents in writing poetry, stories, painting, ceramics
and he focused on the things he valued, which included Albert County
history and his family. He shared these interests with his family by
going on adventures which included rock hounding, gold panning,
exploring forgotten places; we never knew what to
expect. So many happy memories. Over his lifetime
John was committed to many organizations and assumed roles as an
organizer and made plans come to life. He showed great passion and
dedication to all these interests. John and Isabel retired to Moncton,
enjoyed a wonderful group of friends and family, and became passionate
in the evolution of Albert County Historical Society and Albert County
Museum. John and Isabel are very proud of the book, «Shadows of
the Past» which they researched and wrote with their friend, Jim
West. His impact on our lives will live
forward.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall –
