Obituary
John Richard Powell, Retired Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Sergeant, and formerly of Carbonear, passed peacefully away on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at St. Patrick’s Mercy Home at the age of 87 years.
Predeceased by his loving wife Bette; parents Frederick and Mildred; brother Fred; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; Marie and Bud Quinn, Chris Davis, Ruby Davis and Marjorie Davis.
Leaving to mourn with cherished memories his devoted children; Tony (Judy) and Kim (Chris); grandsons, David Powell (Kelly), Colby Stamp (Marissa) and Clarke Noseworthy; brothers -in-law, Tom Davis and Cal Davis (Maureen); special cousins, Doreen Squires (Lorne) and Helen Collins (Kevin); long time neighbors and friends of Roland Drive, extended family and a large circle
of friends.
John will be remembered for being a true family man, as he built a strong and loving family. He was dedicated to his faith and was an active member in his church community at First United Church.
John loved the outdoors; camping, cabin time in Eastport, berry picking and bird hunting with his dog Frisk. John and Bette enjoyed travelling around the island, and winter vacations in Florida.
John loved a good time; he always had a joke, loved making people smile, and he truly was a happy man. He loved hockey and was a diehard Toronto Maple Leafs fan.
Residents of Mount Pearl knew John and the «Mount Pearl Walkers», and many have said that you could set your watch to their daily route.
Visitation will be held at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 73 Commonwealth Avenue, Mount Pearl, on Saturday, March 4, 2023 from 7:00 -9:00 pm and Sunday, March 5, 2023 from 2:00 -4:00pm and 7:00 -9:00 pm. Funeral service will be held on Monday, March 6, 2023 at 1:00 pm from First United Church, Mount Pearl. Interment to follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
