Passed peacefully on December 31, 2022, in the presence of his devoted family, John (Jackie) Ershler, aged 75 years. Predeceased by his parents, John Ershler Sr., Bridget (nee Crickard) Ershler; son, David Ershler and sister, Frances Dooling.
Jackie dedicated his over 50 year career as an employee of the Town of Petty Harbour-Maddox Cove. Along with his life-long colleague and friend, Ed Maher, the pair were instrumental in shaping the Town into the vibrant community it is today. Jackie was very well known and liked by everyone who crossed his path and his happy-go-lucky charm. He was a kind soul who always tried to make people laugh.
His greatest treasure was his family whom he loved dearly. Jackie was an amazing husband, father and grandfather. He will forever be missed by his wife, Olga (Dolly) Ershler (nee Clements); his sons Keith (Bernice), Wayne (Krista) and Stephen (Erin); four grandchildren, Stephanie (Brandon), Brady (Kayla), Hailey and Taylor (Brendon); one great-granddaughter who he was so fortunate to have the opportunity to hold before his passing, Callie.
Also leaving to mourn are his three brothers, Bobby (Susan), Ron (Judy) and David (Denise); nine sisters, Geraldine Hamlyn, Marg Chafe (Alt), Debbie Turner, Sandra Galway, Diane Rideout (John), Linda Morey (Bill), Patsy Vallis, Carmel Clements (Morley Hann) and Rosslyn Everard (Jose); brother-in-law Richard Clements (Anita) and sister-in-law Gladys Hutchings (Nat); countless nieces, nephews and friends. Special friendships now forever frozen in time, Ed Maher, Paul Doyle and Dan Hynes.
Special thank you to the staff of St. Patrick’s Mercy Home for the special care and heartfelt support provided to Jackie.
Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road on Tuesday, January 3rd and Wednesday, January 4th from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. each day. Funeral Mass to take place from St. Kevin’s Parish Church in the Goulds at 10 a.m. on Thursday, January 5th, 2023, followed by interment at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Petty Harbour. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Patrick’s Mercy Home would be greatly appreciated.
Such a hole has been placed on our hearts that only sweet memories can help to fill. We will miss you forever!
