Jake (John D./Jack) McMillen Obituary
Jake left this earth and joined his wife Arlene (1939-1969) to pursue
his next great adventure on December 18, 2024; his work was done.
On September 19, 1932, Jake was born at the family homestead
south of Ponoka. He was the first of four children born to Merle and
Lena McMillen.
Jake is survived by his children, Jackie, Lenora (Greg), Toni (Tony),
Simon (Be), and six grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Arlene, parents Merle & Lena,
& siblings Bruce, Jerry and Joan.
Jake will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, his love of
travelling, fishing and hunting. A lifetime member of the Ponoka Fish
& Game.
Playing and Coaching Baseball (Fastball) was a passion of his. He
enjoyed many sports, and was Inducted into the Alberta Sports Hall
of Fame.
Jake was a professional Taxidermist, and his incredible work can be
found all over North America.
He enjoyed painting, and his woodworking skills were phenomenal.
For anyone who has ever visited ‘the museum’ of trucks, trains,
planes, etc. his woodworking talent is evident.
Spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren was
what he enjoyed the most. Jake leaves behind a legacy that will live
on in the hearts of his family and those who knew him.
He was larger than life, he was invincible, he was a role model and
mentored many young ball players. Jake touched the lives of so
many, his presence will be deeply missed.
A celebration of Jake’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of
flowers, plant a tree in his honor.
