Remembering a life so beautifully lived, and a heart so deeply loved. It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the passing of our dear father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and devoted husband to his loving wife, Edith, for 62 years. John Leo Hackett (Jack) passed away peacefully at The Burin Peninsula Health Care Center in Burin on Thursday, June 1st, 2023, surrounded by his adoring family. He has left us with a lifetime of beautiful, cherished memories.
Jack was predeceased by his son, Rick; parents, Leo and Anne Hackett; great-grandchild, Harper Leeann; siblings, Elizabeth, Gladys, Norah, Sheila, Irene, Carrie, Mary and Leo Jr.
Leaving to mourn with a lifetime of wonderful memories are his wife Edith of 62 years; his children, Wanda Haines (Fred), John Hackett Jr. (Gloria), Gloria Hackett (Marc); and Jim Hackett (Madonna); grandchildren, Richard, Jessica, Freddy, Sheneen, Jackson, Michael, Alex, and Jake; great-grandchildren, Mercedes, Violet, Owen, Maddox, Sawyer and Miles; brother, Jerome (Barbara); plus a large circle of extended family and friends.
The unconditional love and generosity he showed his family will always be remembered and treasured. His gentle, friendly demeanor, sense of humour and “funny jokes” were beloved by all who knew him. Jack was a devoted husband and family man. He was a hard-working man and a “Jack of all Trades”. He has left an imprint on the hearts of so many.
We sincerely thank all the wonderful staff of The Burin Peninsula Health Care Center and his homecare workers Lacey McCarthy and Shauna Hickey for their truly compassionate and exceptional care of our beloved father and husband.
In keeping with John’s wishes, cremation has taken place.
Inurnment to follow at a later date.
