John Frederick Waugh, 89, formerly of Summerside, PEI, Nassau, Bahamas, and Lusaka, Zambia, passed away on December 30, 2023, at the Upper River Valley Hospital, Waterville, NB, attended by family.
John was born to Robert and Muriel Waugh in Lower Bedeque, PEI. He moved on from the family farm to embark on his journey with the Royal Bank which began in Summerside and finished in Coral Gables, Florida. This journey included many stops along the way: Nova Scotia and then internationally to The Bahamas, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Guyana, and Jamaica with Quebec sprinkled in between. After deciding retirement wasn’t for him, he returned to banking with Meridian Bank which took him to Lusaka, Zambia, where he stayed for more than 20 years.
John was predeceased by both his wives, Claudette in 1994 and Grace in 2008. He is survived by his children: Calvin (Sandra); Ian (Karen); Laura (Tim); Marvin and his grandchildren: Ryan, Tabitha, Carlos, Camilla, and Paulo. He is also survived by one brother, Harry (Shirley) and sister-in-law, June. He is predeceased by his brother, Willard; sisters, Georgie (Ralph) and Janet.
His family wishes to express their appreciation to the Home Care Staff in Summerside and the staff of both the Prince County and the Upper River Valley Hospitals for the care and support provided.
The funeral will be held at the Central Bedeque Baptist Church, PEI, on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at 2 pm; burial to follow weather permitting. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Central Bedeque Baptist Church, the Central Bedeque Baptist Church Cemetery, or the Canadian Lung Association ( www.lung.ca/)
