John Carter Obituary
May 26, 1940- September 14, 2024
It is with tremendous sadness we announce the peaceful passing of John Carter surrounded by his loving family on September 14, 2024.
John will forever be cherished in the lives of his beloved wife Joan; sisters Isabelle and Betty, brother Nelson; sons John (Sandy) and Rob (Krista); grandchildren Amanda, Ashley, Tori, and Colby; great grandchildren William, Marcus, and James; and many beloved friends.
John Carter was a pillar of strength in all the lives that he touched. John was a mountain of a man, who cared so deeply for his family. He was well known around the fields and rinks of the province, from player, to coach, to parent. He was always there to lend a helping hand or to offer words or advice or encouragement. These sentiments were felt in his last moments, where he encouraged his grandchildren to «give ‘em hell» and reminded them one last time to «be good».
Joan and his wife, Joan, travelled around the world creating lasting memories together; from New Zealand to Spain, and travelling around the Middle East. They spent their retirement years living in Tors Cove in their cabin, where they kept each other company and hosted many late-nights around the fire. They loved to dance together and their presence on the dance floor would often silence a room while everyone watched in awe. No two people loved each other more, and he cherished every moment with his wife until his last breath.
John could have written the book on how to be a father. He supported his sons in every endeavour, he gave them guidance, support, love and friendship.
John was an avid outdoorsman. He and his boys (Rob and John) went on countless hunting and fishing trips, spending time at their cabin in Millertown with Johns best friend, Les.
His grandkids were his pride and joy, John was truly a man who somehow could he in two places at once. To them, he was more than a grandfather. He never missed a hockey game, soccer match, bowling contest, math competition, recital, or road race; flying across the country to watch his family compete. As time went on, he even figured out how to stream games online when they were away playing in tournaments.
It was truly a privilege to know John Carter. His loss will leave a void in the hearts of all he met. If John were here today, he would laugh and tell us all not to cry and that he would see us later. He was so appreciative for all the people in his life, and he truly lived life to its fullest. John has passed the baton to the next generation, giving all of us something to carry forward. For that, we are all eternally grateful.
Rob and John are truly thankful and appreciate Krista and Sandy for their love, support and care for John in his final months.
Honoring John’s wishes cremation has taken place, and services will take place at a later date.
A son, a father, a grandfather, a great grandfather and a friend. John, you will forever be missed.
