Obituary
It is with sadness but also with joy that we announce the passing of Ann Vanderwekken. On May 18, 2023 Ann went to live forever with her heavenly Father.
Ann was born September 4, 1931 in Bennebroek, The Netherlands, the youngest of seven children. Ann married her childhood sweetheart on September 23, 1954 and several days later immigrated to Canada. They often said that they were still on their honeymoon. After living in Kamloops and Red Deer they moved to Clive, Alberta in 1960 where they raised a family and operated an automotive repair shop. Retirement gave John & Ann time to travel to places like Peru, Greece and Irian Jaya for short term mission projects through World Team Canada. Ann moved into Royal Oak Village Memory Care in the fall of 2013 and lived there until she passed away. The family gives enormous gratitude to the staff at Royal Oak Memory Care. We can’t thank them enough for their incredible love and care for our mother.
Ann is survived by her children, Ann & Charles Claus, Marilyn & Henry Vandermeer, Betty & John DeSchiffart, Ken & Marlene Vanderwekken, Tim & Sarah Vanderwekken, 16 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren. Ann is predeceased by her husband John, daughter Edith, grandson Matthew Claus and great-grandson Seth Folkerts. She is also predeceased by all of her siblings.
Ann lived a life of Christian faithfulness. The evidence of this was all around her in her daily life, even through dementia. She will be missed but her legacy lives on in us all.
A Memorial Service will be held On Friday May 26, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Wolf Creek Community Church, 4110 Hwy 12 Lacombe. Internment will follow at Clive Cemetery.
