Obituary of Joe McNamee
It is with broken hearts that the family of Joe “Spanky” Blake McNamee, husband of Donna (Day) McNamee, announces his passing, after a short illness on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Joe was born on May 28, 1951, in Saint John and was the son of the late Gordon and Kal (McAllister) McNamee.
During his life Joe worked as a Corrections Officer and after retiring worked for the Hardman Group in Market Square. Joe will be remembered as a thoughtful person who was always looking out for others. Whether he was sourcing furniture for someone who needed it, or providing food or clothes to others, he was always looking out for his family and friends. Joe loved spending time on his motorcycles and spent many summers driving the backroads of New Brunswick. He loved fishing and hunting, especially at his best friend Jack’s camp, which in Joe’s heart was also his camp. He found solace in nature and the quiet atmosphere the camp provided. When Joe became a grandfather, it changed his life and his tough exterior melted into a puddle anytime Shyann was near. His and Shyann’s favourite hobby was to argue with one another and tease each other. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Joe is survived by his wife of 53 years, Donna; daughters, Shawna (Billy Doucette) McNamee and Tracy (Murray) Williams; beloved granddaughter Shyann Doucette; brothers, James (Carol), John (Penny) and Paul McNamee; sisters, Patricia O’Brien, Joan (Joseph) Coughlan, and Beth (Paul) Shanks; he is also survived by his aunt Frances McAllister; his best friend Jack “Sprout” Winchester; brother-in-law, Kippy (Angela) Day and sister-in-law, Cindy (David) Thiemann; and many nieces and nephews. Joe was predeceased by his parents and his brothers, Bob and Peter McNamee.
Arrangements are under the care of Kennebecasis Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Rd. Quispamsis (506-849-2119). In keeping with Joe’s wishes there will be no visitation, a private ceremony will be held at a later date. For those who wish donations may be made to the SPCA or the charity of the donor’s choice.
